Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about PinSpots and how our childcare directory works.
Where does your childcare data come from?
All of our listings come from official provincial government licensing registries and open data portals. We do not accept user-submitted listings. Every facility in our directory is a licensed, government-registered childcare provider.
How often is the data updated?
We update our data monthly by pulling the latest releases from provincial government open data portals. Some provinces publish updates more frequently than others. The date of the most recent government data release is noted on individual listings where available.
What provinces do you cover?
We currently have listings for British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. We are actively working to add more provinces.
What is $10/day childcare (CWELCC)?
The Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) program is a federal-provincial agreement to reduce childcare fees to an average of $10 per day. Eligibility and timelines vary by province. We show CWELCC eligibility status where available in our data, but we recommend confirming directly with the facility or your provincial government, as status can change.
Is the $10/day eligibility information accurate?
Our $10/day eligibility data comes directly from provincial government datasets. However, programs are rolling out on different timelines across provinces, and individual facility participation can change. Always confirm current subsidy status directly with the childcare provider.
A listing has incorrect information. How do I report it?
Since our data comes from government sources, most corrections need to be made at the provincial level. However, if you notice an error, please email us at skybhikarry@gmail.com and we will investigate and update our records if appropriate.
I run a childcare centre. Can I update my listing?
We are working on a feature that will let childcare operators claim and manage their listings. In the meantime, if you need to correct information about your facility, please contact us at skybhikarry@gmail.com.
Is PinSpots free to use?
Yes, PinSpots is completely free for parents and families. Our directory is built on publicly available government data and we believe access to this information should be free for everyone.
Does PinSpots recommend specific childcare providers?
No. We are a directory, not a referral service. We present factual data from government sources. We do not endorse, recommend, or guarantee any particular childcare facility. Parents and guardians should always visit facilities in person and conduct their own research before choosing a childcare provider.
How do you handle my personal information?
We collect minimal data and comply with PIPEDA (Canada's federal privacy law). We do not require account creation and do not sell personal information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
